Employment Transition Program
This 24 week pre-employment program is designed specifically for individuals with an “intellectual disability” and persons designated as slow learners. This group based employability program is for individuals who are facing barriers to employment but show potential for eventual success in competitive employment. These individuals require longer term employment supports than what currently is available in service options as a result of their current barriers.
The objective of this program is to provide the individual with an opportunity for both personal growth and work skills while addressing the current barriers that maybe precluding them from competitive employment.
The pre-employment program features a series of 24 weeks of classroom, work activity and community placement opportunities. This training will include; social and life skills, pre-employment and career development as well as work ethics and an orientation to employers expectations. Each individual will receive weekly opportunities to participate in work training placements where practical application to skill training can be utilized.
The desired results of this program are that the individual has acquired the necessary skills to be self sufficient in competitive employment given the current service options available. Upon completion of the program it is expected that the individual would be referred to the appropriate employment service providers.
